Holiday Greetings-Club Update

As another year comes to a close, may I once again take the opportunity to thank those members who make every effort to come out and support club events, aside from our club regulars, several who never hesitate to pitch-in and help whenever it's needed.   Participation is key, it is what keeps our club moving forward and much appreciation goes out to all for their continued support.

Our first General Membership Meeting of 2016 will be on Friday, January 8th at 8 p.m.; as usual, we will be ready to update photos for member ID's and Red Mastrobuono will be scoring racks from all registered members for our Big Buck Contest.  Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at our February meeting.
Please take a look at our 2016 Calendar of Events here on the club's website; there have been a few updates and copies will be available at our meetings.
I join our Board of Directors in wishing members, families and friends of the Kent Rod and Gun Club, a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

Fall Club Update!

One more Summer comes to an end and, over the past months, our club has enjoyed a great run of events.  Now, many of our members are geared-up and ready for another great season to open; we wish them good luck and safe hunting.

Our Annual Family BBQ in August was an enjoyable day for everyone.  Red Mastrobuono and his crew put together an organized and fun day filled with food and plenty of laughs.  Red's "Garbage Pail Turkey" was a huge hit and everyone lined-up for a big taste!  This annual event is a great day for our members, family and friends, to kick-back and take part in a leisurely afternoon.

This past week-end, the second of our Ladies Day at the Range events was held and the girls had an outstanding time!  Following an important safety lecture, everyone was treated to a great luncheon and then it was off to the club ranges for some target and trap shooting plus archery.  Thanks to Flying Arrow Sports of Carmel for generously donating equipment for the ladies to use Taurus for sending boxes of brochures and goodies to share with everyone.

Special thanks go out to club Instructors/RSO's and members who gave up their Sunday to assist and guide the ladies on our ranges.  The feedback we've received has been overwhelmingly positive, especially with the education that was provided in safe gun handling procedures.  All the ladies want to know when we're doing it again!!

Friday, October 2nd - SWAP MEET & General Membership Meeting

Start time will be at 7:00 p.m. for the Swap Meet; normal club business will be conducted at 8 p.m. and then everyone can return to the tables to browse and buy some goodies.  Members are invited to bring along any/all items of interest, especially Hunting & Fishing items, to sell or swap.  Always plenty of great deals to be found!

Spring Event Update!!

It looks like Spring finally made it!  Now that we're done putting away shovels, snow blowers and various snow plows, it's time to start getting in shape for the months ahead.

Our first club clean-up event will be held on Sunday, April 26th at 9 a.m.  Be advised that all members participating in the clean-up must sign-in no later than 10 a.m. so that your work time can be properly recorded.

As usual, bring along rakes, leaf blowers, shovels and anything else necessary to help get our club in shape.  Coffee, refreshments and a hearty lunch will be served to all the workers who come out to lend a hand.

Keep in mind that our club maintenance events are a great way to rack-up hours to fulfill your member work requirement!

Everyone loves a raffle and our Spring Raffle is in full-swing.  The big drawing will be at our June membership meeting so...sell, sell, sell and make someone a lucky winner!

Take the kiddies fishing and bring them to our Pan Fish Derby on Sunday, June 21st!  What a great way to celebrate Father's Day by spending some time with the  Go to your favorite spot and bring your best catch up to the club for a noon weigh-in.  Prizes and Lunch follow for all who attend; members, family and friends are all welcome.

As usual, please give us your head count if you plan on attending!

Another upcoming event (possibly in later Summer) will be our 3D Archery Shoot; details to follow.

Better yet is our Family BBQ, scheduled for Saturday, August 8th!  The highlight of this event will be the club's Food Throwdown.  This year, the competition will be "Wings" to members only, all who are invited to bring their best chicken wing recipes to the table for judging by a selectively chosen panel of food critics.

Red Mastrobuono is currently accepting reservations for the BBQ, a fantastic value for a day filled with food and fun for everyone.  Price:  $20.00 for Adults and for Kids 8 years of age and under...$10.00.

Donations for our raffle table will be greatly appreciated along with some desserts to be enjoyed at the end of the day.  NO walk-ins the day day of the BBQ!
Contact Red at: kentrodandgunclub@gmail for reservations and with any questions.

February-March Club Update!

Weekly snowstorms and frigid temps aside, the Kent Rod & Gun Club is busy with upcoming events.  Here are just a few:

  • Ice Fishing Party - Sunday, February 22nd at 6:30 a.m.   Please give us some feedback if you plan on attending, ASAP, so that, as usual, no one goes away hungry...something that we never allow to happen at any of the Kent Rod & Gun Club events!  Members, family and friends...especially the kids, are all welcome.  This is a great way to introduce the youngsters to the fun of ice fishing with plenty of club helping hands, ready to give them lessons.  Just shoot us an email with your head count!

  • Next on our club's big event list is our Annual Corned Beef Dinner, scheduled for Saturday, March 7th at 7:00 p.m.  $25 a head for Adults/$5 for Children, 12 and under.    Our club features one of the best Corned Beef Dinners in Putnam County, thanks to Lou Tartaro and his crew.  Again, there will be a cut-off date of February 28th, for ALL reservations, NO exceptions, NO walk-ins!

  • Our next NRA Pistol Safety Course will be held on Sunday, March 15th at 8 a.m.   $95.00 per person....Members and immediate family-$25.00 per person.  As usual, our club will have refreshments and lunch items for sale during this event.  This is necessary for those preparing to apply for their NY Pistol License and our team of Instructors provide an in-depth, hands-on, course of instruction.  Contact us to register before March 10th!
